The Mountain Club of Maryland (MCM) is partnering with FOGFLP to offer Part 1 of the Grand Hiking Tour of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, a 1,000-acre stream valley park with 842 acres of forest. The walk features a combination of natural and historic features perched on the fall line. You will see remnants of Baltimore's hydropower-driven manufacturing past interspersed between stream riffles, rock outcrops, and dense forest. The route also passes through two beautiful historic neighborhoods with historic houses and buildings, some of which are on the National Register.
The hike is through the western portion of the park for a total of 7.8 miles with a 620 foot elevation gain. A pace of 2.0 mph will be maintained. Hike leaders are Bridget McCusker (MCM & FOGFLP) and co-leader Thayer Young, FOGFLP volunteer and President of Cicada Systems GIS Consulting.
Mountain Club members should register on the MCM website; all others, please use this form. If you need help registering or with directions, contact Bridget McCusker at mccbrid@gmail.com or (410) 245-0589.
Meeting time is 10:00am at Winans Meadow Parking lot, 4500 N. Franklintown Rd. Coordinates: 39.30455, -76.69378. The hike will take approximately 4.5 hours, including a break for lunch. Please register by March 8.
