Leakin Park Plant Walk

  • 13 Oct 2024
  • 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Will be shared upon event sign-up

Come out for a 2-mile plant walk through Leakin Park. We will walk through different habitats of the park, including the stream valleys, newly restored native meadows, mature forest, young forest, and an area recovering from a forest fire. We will look at native and nonnative invasive plants. Dress for the weather and for a hike; expect about 400 feet of total elevation gain on both paved and dirt trails. We will go in rain, unless a thunderstorm is predicted.

Please sign up by sending an email with a contact phone number in case of any changes to: thayeray@yahoo.com or execdirect@friendsofgwynnsfallsleakinpark.org. Details of where to meet will be provided when you sign up.

Thayer Young is a volunteer with the Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, and tries to walk each trail in the park in each season. He recently worked with FOGFLP to update and redo the trail map brochure that is available at the main entrances to the park and can also be downloaded here. His day job is making maps and databases for small nonprofits, but he also loves to identify plants.

Where is the park?

On the western edge of Baltimore, right where Interstate 70 terminates.
