Park Run - Free 5k Run and Walk (9 May 2026)

This free 5K run occurs every Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. All ages are welcome. While many serious runners join us, Parkrun is not a race-- it is a fun run or walk for good health or to track your times. There is an optional social afterwards.

Kids and strollers are welcome. Dogs too! (one dog per runner). Participants tend to span all age groups and levels of fitness.

Our group of dedicated runners let almost nothing stop them, so we're out if it's sunny and beautiful, or if it's snowy and cold. Rarely, weather conditions or global pandemics do force us to re-route or cancel. Check out our Facebook page for last minute updates.

Foraging Hike with Afro Foragers (9 May 2026)

Have you ever looked at a plant and wondered what it is?

This is an Afro Foragers event taking place in Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park. Registration is required.

Join Hannah Vega of Afro Foragers for a relaxed, beginner-friendly plant walk in Baltimore to spend time with some of the most common and easy-to-identify local plants.

No prior experience needed.

This will be a slow and comfortable hike.

Learn how to recognize everyday plants you can start building a relationship with right away.
Learn how to safely observe, identify, and begin to understand the uses of these plant.

Whether you come for the music, the trails, or time with family, there is something here for everyone.

Second Sunday tips

The Carrie Murray Nature Center has special hours on Second Sundays - from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. So you can stop by and visit after the trains stop running.
At peak time, around noon, the parking lot at 1920 Eagle Drive (by the tennis courts) can fill up. It's easy to park at Sloman Drive and walk past the train tracks.

Discover Leakin Park Through the Eyes of Expert Birders

See Leakin Park in a new way with the Baltimore Bird Club! New birders will benefit from the expert advice of local residents Elise and Paul who have been birding in the park for decades. You will be pleasantly surprised at the number and variety of avian species supported by the park.

Experienced birders will wish to know that Leakin Park is a 1000+acre park in West Baltimore which contains mature and secondary forest as well as riparian habitats and some limited field habitat. The Park is poised to become a partnership park with the State of Maryland. We are hoping adding the State resources will allow for improved conservation and maintenance in this gorgeous forested park.

It is recommended that you register by email at ekreiss@verizon.net or 410-367-8194, so that you may be updated in case of changes. Leaders: Elise and Paul Kreiss. Please feel free to contact them with questions.

We welcome adults and kids 10+ who can focus on quiet, contemplative activity. Kids have sharp eyes, and therefore make great birders! Please bring your own binoculars.

Attendees indulge in expertly curated bourbon tastings, savor tasty brunch dishes, and enjoy a unique atmosphere celebrating the beauty of nature at Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park -- Baltimore's 1,000 acre woodland park.
